Is there anywhere in the world you would go even if it was only for a few hours? My husband and I had this experience recently. We both had Saturday off work and made the decision to fly to San Francisco Friday night and see the city on Saturday before our returning flight home that night. What a quick weekend indeed! If you ever want a short day trip I highly recommend San Francisco. There is so much to do and see even if you’re only there for a short period of time! Our day looked something like this:

9:00 am – board train from airport to Embarcadero Street

We were somewhat unprepared for the price it takes to take a tracks downtown and back. It cost us $17 a person! So if you’re planning on taking the tracks downtown be aware that it can be quite a bit pricier than other cities!

10:00 am – walk along the piers

The good thing about San Francisco is you don’t really need a rental car once you’re downtown if you don’t mind a bit of walking! The tracks took us a few steps away from Ferry Building Marketplace which is absolutely a gorgeous site to see not to mention the farmers market that takes place there is incredible!

From there we walked to Pier 7 which is a long boardwalk but gives you an incredible shot of the city.

12:00 pm – Eat lunch at Pier 39

If you’re going to go to San Francisco I would argue that you MUST see Pier 39. This is where everything seems to be happening. There are shows, restaurants, and even a carousel!

While we were here we ate at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. which gives you incredible views of the ocean and Alcatraz! Not to mention the food was incredible!

2:00 pm Ghirardelli Square

From Pier 39 we ate at Ghirardelli Square. For someone who loves chocolate as much as me, this is the reason you go to San Francisco!

3:00 pm Return to Airport on Train

Overall we walked about 4 miles from the train stop to Ghirardelli Square and back.

If  you ever want to see a city in a short amount of time San Francisco is the place to go. Many of the main attractions are within walking distance and you can see so much in a short amount of time!

San Francisco is truly an amazing city full of so much art and character. It is definitely somewhere worth seeing.

  1. HI! Thanks for signing up to follow my blog on diet, exercise and living past 100. I am enjoying my visit to yours. Very nice post on San Francisco. I have visited it a number of times and always had a super time in addition to doing business there. As a sushi fan, I loved the restaurant – Blowfish – Sushi to die for. Wonder if it is still there. Super sushi!
